derrima Phalènes & Papillons is located in the heart of Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada. We are a small preservation breeder who have been actively breeding since 2012.
A NOTE FROM US
Our dogs are family before they are anything else. They share the house with us, the sofa with us, and most of the day with us, and puppies are raised right in the middle of it all.
No matter what their ears do I am so very proud of every puppy we have whelped and raised.
ONE BREED, TWO EAR CARRIAGES
The drop ear, by choice.
WHAT WE BREED
Phalène
The drop-eared variety, named for the moth. The ears carry the same long fringing as the Papillon's, but hang softly at the side of the head. Rarer, gentle in expression, and our very favourite kind of dog.
NOW AND THEN
Papillon
The erect-eared variety, named for the butterfly. Because both carriages live in these pedigrees, a Papillon puppy appears in our litters now and then, a lovely surprise every time. We adore them just as much.
CLOSE TO OUR HEART
The Phalène deserves a champion
Drop ears are much the rarer of the two, with a smaller gene pool behind them, so we have built our programme around Phalène to Phalène pairings. Ears reveal themselves as puppies grow, so we never promise one.
